NYAS, in partnership with Wesley Mission, has developed the Young Parenting Program (YPP) out of a need to provide a more holistic and integrated service to vulnerable young families who were unable to access the Willow Tree Program. It is designed to be child focused and specifically tailored to meet the needs of vulnerable young parents up to the age of 25 years.

The YPP functions as part of an action-learning cycle, alternating between group based and in-home learning, supported by case workers and group facilitators.

The objective of this program is to provide a consistent and measured set of outcomes in both parenting skills and the health and development of children.

Aims
YPP has the following aims:

  • To promote healthy development in children.
  • To promote strong, functional and well-supported families by the development of parenting skills and through access to local services.
  • To reduce and prevent child abuse and neglect in participating families.
  • To prevent homelessness by providing semi-independent and transitional accommodation.
  • To provide a practical day to day program for new mums.
