Nepean Early Intervention and Prevention Program (NEIPP)

The Nepean Early Intervention and Prevention Program aims at preventing homelessness or homelessness becoming entrenched into chronic homelessness.
To do this, this service provides:

  • Emergency and short term accommodation services based in the Penrith CBD, with a day time drop-in service providing basic meals, health services, information and referrals and opportunities to engage in recreational and vocational programs. The service is for young males and females aged 13 years to 17 years of age.

  • Early intervention support to young people who are at risk of homelessness while they are still living with their families or couch surfing with friends.

  • Post crisis support for young people transitioning into long term accomodation or back home.

  • Respite and bridging placements for young people in care whose placements have broken down or undergoing family restoration.

  • Group activities and recreation (i.e. camps, trips away, etc) to provide mentoring and to build identity and self esteem.

  • The NEIPP represents a new approach to supporting young homeless people and those at risk of homelessness.
Developing the service was made possible with the financial assistance of the Mercy Foundation, ongoing funding from FACS (SHS Program), and HAP (YHS Program).
