Life Skills

NYAS provides to young people participating in all of our accommodation and support programs training and information in basic living skills, which they may not have developed due to their disrupted home lives. Topics include:

  • House management, cooking, shopping.
  • Nutrition, health, personal relationships.
  • Cleaning, hygiene.
  • Money managing, banking, dealing with institutions.
  • Legal rights and responsibilities
  • Social skills through farm-stay camps during school holidays
  • And many others

  • These skills are developed through the work of Life Skills mentors working individually with young people according to their needs, and sometimes in a group setting when appropriate. The NYAS Support Centre is open to all young people for free access to:

  • Computers & Phones
  • Health check-ups from visiting nurses
  • Educational & recreational programs
